About Dr. Hankins
Dr. Hankins specializes in advanced surgical procedures, including cartilage restoration of the knee, meniscal repair, single and multi-ligament knee reconstruction, treatments of shoulder and knee instability, deformity and alignment correction, as well as repair and reconstructive techniques to treat pathology of the rotator cuff, labrum and acromioclavicular joint of the shoulder.
Expertise
A board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Hankins is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and an active member of multiple professional societies, including the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the South Carolina Orthopaedic Association. He has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in well-respected orthopaedic journals, such as The American Journal of Sports Medicine.
Background
Dr. Hankins graduated cum laude from the University of Florida in Gainesville with a Bachelor of Science in integrative biology and earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville. He then completed his orthopaedic surgical residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville, serving as chief administrative resident.
During his residency, Dr. Hankins completed multispecialty orthopaedic training at Mayo Clinic and pediatric orthopaedic training at Nemours Children’s Hospital. These experiences, along with volunteering to provide sideline coverage at various high school athletic events at Duval County public schools, cultivated a desire to care for athletes. After residency, Dr. Hankins completed a yearlong orthopaedic surgery sports medicine and arthroscopy fellowship at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where he cared for Division I athletes as a team physician.
